Taboo

With Tom Hardy's Taboo season 2 coming out soon, I went to go check out season 1. I was surprised at this hidden gem.

Tom Hardy plays James Delaney, a man who returns to England, from Africa, with a major chip on his shoulder and a problem with essentially everyone. He starts to rebuild his father's trading company but is opposed by both the government and the East India Trading Company. Both of whom will stop at nothing to claim his inheritance, whether it be blackmail or even murder.

The story is really good and is an easy binge-worthy series. Also binging definitely helps as if you miss or forget something you will most definitely be lost.

The acting and characterisation are phenomenal. Jonathan Pryce takes up the role of the main antagonist, who is both relatable but incredibly unlikeable. The cast is full of people who you won't remember their names, but remember their faces from somewhere. Tom Hardy is as always incredible in the main role. Creating a character who is underhanded, cunning and not at all moral but you will still be rooting for.

The series is shot in a lot of black and greys which helps to portray England in 1812. The only problem with that is it is very easy to miss details, however historically accurate that may be.

The problems with the show are the random scenes of what I am assuming is a demon who is following Delaney around and no explanation on this. I do hope this is addressed in season 2

Overall this is a very underrated show and definitely flies under the radar of most people. I, personally look forward to season 2 with bated breath.

Overall Rating: 7/10

Recommended for: Game of Thrones fans, Witcher fans and people looking for a good series
