Modern Family

So, Modern Family has finally been released on Netflix and I’ll be honest, I sat down and binged all the seasons!

Modern Family focuses on an oddball family and their day-to-day problems. It sounds boring, but the jokes and quips in it are really good and there are some hilarious outcomes from their decisions. The family comprises the patriarch and matriarch, Jay and Gloria, their two children, the dramatic Mannie and the probable super-villain Joe. Jay's son, from his previous marriage, Mitch, and his partner Cam, and their child, Lily. And finally, Jay's daughter, Claire and her husband, Phil, and their family, Hayley, Alex and Luke.

The camerawork is decent, the director’s have found a formula that works and just copy, paste it across all the seasons.

The character work with some of the main cast is amazing. For example, the not-emotional-at-all Jay, learning what it is like to show emotions as a father, or the overly controlling Claire, learning that it is ok to let go. However, there are some characters that have not grown at all. For example, Cam starts off as the overly dramatic partner of Mitch and stays that way and Lily's character, from the moment her role starts can be summed up as annoying.

The acting is okay, as none of the actors really have to leave their comfort zone. As a fan of Ed O'Neil (really enjoyed him in Married with Children), I personally enjoy and identify with his character as the grumpy patriarch the most.

Overall, while it is almost the same as any other sitcom, it is fun to watch and is just a good time where viewers can relate to at least one of the characters and definitely to a lot of the situations, like awkward family dinners, or trying not to get into trouble with one's significant other.

Overall Rating: 8.4/10
