I have never been a huge fan of period pieces. I did dabble in Downton Abbey, but other than that not much else. I usually find these Pride and Prejudice like stories rather boring and repetitive so my mindset, going into this, was not to expect much. Ian Mcshane was the main reason I went to check this out.

Doctor Thorne follows a lowly-born man and his niece Mary Thorne and their relationship with a high-born family who reside in Greshamsbury Park Estate.

The acting is alright, however, there are three actors who truly stand out. Tom Hollander, Stefanie Martini and the legendary Ian Mcshane stand out in this series. These three truly do carry the series, which is good as the three of them are the main characters so the casting director definitely did their job right.

The character arcs are enjoyable while nothing is too special or different from any pieces like the books written by Jane Austen.

The story itself is truly the same as every other Victorian English piece and there are series that do it better, but it is definitely worth the watch with the wait for Downton Abbey's next season.
It is also shot amazingly; the camerawork is truly a masterpiece. It showcases the beauty of all the scenery and the correct emotions that an audience needs to have in each scene.
The music is also very well placed and goes a long way to portray the story itself.
Overall, I rather enjoyed Doctor Thorne which definitely was worth the watch.
