I know, I know this game has been out forever at this stage, the problem is I only just finished it the other day. I, personally just could not get into the game.
Days Gone takes place in a post-apocalyptic America. You play as Deacon who has survived the Zombie, sorry Freaker-Apocalypse. You team up with Boozer as well as a ragtag team of forgettable characters, to survive the zombies, cults, and raiders.
The game is stunning with the graphics looking incredibly realistic. As you drive through the countryside you will see some amazing views, however, when you come across a minor NPC they look like they just came out of the WWE crowd from the 2k games. This does not seem like a problem, but there are ten minor NPCs to every major one. It could be a lot more gruesome, we have seen games overdo gore but this would have made it a lot more realistic.
The story arc is awesome and Deacon's character arcs are great as he comes to terms with the death of the woman he loved.
The gameplay is where this flops. It is cut and dry a run of the mill open world. The gameplay is the exact same as every other open-world game, which is a problem when there are other open-world games out there that have done it better, for example The Witcher and Red Dead Redemption.
Overall there is so much wasted potential here. They could have made the game incredible if they had just made Days Gone its own game, rather than compete with the better games out there.
