So I found this actually rather good. Amazon Prime released a weird combination of Witcher and Van Helsing.
Orlando Bloom leads an oddball cast made up of a lot of unknowns, as a half-blood. No not half wizard, half-human, but a half-fae half-human named Rycroft Philostrate. Carnival Row takes place in a Londonish city called the Berg, where the mythical immigrants, fauns, trolls and faes, seem to be increasing. A detective starts digging into a mysterious number of killings, which there seems to be more than meets the eye.

The story, while no Witcher or Lord of the Rings, is entertaining and the lore is something I really look forward to delving into more. There are so many potential stories they can do with this series and unlike shows like those coming out of books, they do not have restrictions. Yes, the series is based on a movie script, but it has not been released to the general public so they can do whatever they feel like.

The acting is alright. Orlando Bloom does amazingly as the lead. I have always thought he acts in the same, William Turnerish roles, but has stepped out of his comfort zone. Then we get to Cara Delvigne. I will give her props, her acting has gotten better than the atrocities of Suicide Squad and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. However, she is still not at the level that she should be to be a lead character. She does an ok job as the love interest, a fae named Vignette Stonemoss, but should not be pushed for her level of acting as there are actresses around there who act a lot better. The rest of the cast was alright, however, the rest of the main cast feel unnecessary and are there just to fill screen time.

The camerawork is something I really enjoyed though. There was little expense spared.

Overall I rather enjoyed the series as a way to tie me over till the Witcher movie or Star Wars film. I would actually love to see the new Disney film Artemis Fowl done in a similar way. This would make up for the biggest mistake, turning Commander Root female, but that is a topic for another time.
Overall: 5.9/10
