This was a necessary list and a long time coming as I feel like so many people do not appreciate what these wrestlers can do, along with WWE, in my opinion, using them completely wrong. If done right, these wrestlers, or sports entertainers, or whatever you want to call them, could be pushed to the moon as they all have the potential to become as iconic as the bigger names of the industry like The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin!
10. Braun Strowman
I have put Braun at number 10 as he is the champion right now, however, WWE is using him wrong. This man looks like he can kill a country, and looking at the way he trains, he is just going to get bigger. WWE need to do a reset and send him back to the gimmick he had in the Wyatt Family of being a monster that even Roman Reigns wouldn’t mess with. Now, if that means teaming him up with the Fiend, I am one hundred percent behind this. I have been a fierce supporter of Braun throughout his career but it is very obvious that he is much better as a monster heel than a face.
9. Rusev
Yes, I know he was only recently released, but I could not make a list like this without bringing up the fact that WWE has somehow messed up Rusev. He was red hot; the fans were backing him, and he was awesome in the ring. While his promo skills won’t win any awards, he was entertaining on the mic, but for some reason, they have refused to even put him in the main event. While I don’t think he would have been an amazing champion, he could very easily have been a transitional champion and has the talent to put on classic matches. Bizarrely he has been put in a cruddy storyline with Lana and Lashley.
8. Big E
Now this spot was originally Bobby Lashley, but he is finally getting a push. So now to discuss one of the men I feel is being cheated, Big E. Now I love the New Day I am not saying break them up, but Big E is an entertaining performer and incredibly entertaining on the mic. They really need to give him a title run and as shown by Kofi’s WWE championship run, it is possible to put the major belt on a tag team member and still make it feel legit. For all that is good, give Big E an opportunity and he will surprise you.
7. The Viking Raiders
Next, a tag team that is really being wasted. The Viking Raiders on NXT were awesome and the audience could not figure out who would beat them. They actually felt to me like the Vikings of old. WWE caught that when the Viking Raiders were brought up to the main roster, but this was fleeting. What are they doing now? Playing basketball and axe throwing competitions with the Street Profits. Come on!
6. Kevin Owens
I have to give this to Triple H, he booked Owens amazingly! The struggle between Owens and Zayn was awesome and brutal. Owens felt like the prizefighter he always claims to be. Then came a time where WWE used him wrong, but thankfully they saw the error of their ways and put the title on him. This was an amazing run, Owens was teamed with Jericho and watching them together was a lot of fun and extremely enjoyable. Then, for some reason, WWE backtracked again, now he is an obscure mid-carder, even though he is not only main event material, but also very definitely champ material.
5. Shinsuke Nakamura
The next five people are people I think should quit and go to a company that uses their talents. Shinsuke Nakamura is definitely one of them! If any of you need more proof, go watch his New Japan run. He did not do much at NXT, but we got to see a glimmer of what he can do in the recent Styles Nakamura match. Please let him be used right or let him go back to New Japan where he can main-event for them.
4. Samoa Joe
Now we don’t know when or if he will actually return to in-ring performance and right now he is the best commentator on WWE. Most people would say Corey Graves is but, my word, Graves has become annoying. Joe, however, is a classic case of WWE just never pulling the plug and we have seen what Joe can do in both NXT and his short run in the main event against Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns. I would gladly watch a pay-per-view with just Joe versus Brock. Even though he was in the main event and has never touched the gold, he is definitely someone who could carry the company as a heel as he mainly portrays heels, or a face, go look at his run against Kurt Angle.
3. AJ Styles
It killed me a little not putting Styles at number one, as he is, in my opinion, the greatest wrestler to have lived, but the other two are in a worse position than him. This man has carried so many companies and been champion for most, all over the world, including WWE, but how is he now being used? As a mid-carder in rather boring feuds. Yes, he fought the Undertaker at Wrestlemania, but that match was so bad and both performers deserve a lot better. WWE needs to book him in the main event, and soon, or he should just go to AEW where they can book him correctly.
2. Alexa Bliss
Ok, this one annoys me! Let me get this straight, Alexa Bliss is a former Women’s champion, has stood toe-to-toe with the greats of women’s wrestling and is a future Hall of Famer, but is being pinned by the Iconics. This tag-team run has been bad and has killed a character once known as the Goddess. Her Goddess persona was incredible, making her look like a threat and deserving of the top heel. Right now, our top women’s heel is a winy child who’s “parents don’t understand her”. WWE needs to boom Bliss to take that spot back from Bayley.
1. Cesaro
This man is one of the most reliable performers in wrestling today. He can make nearly any angle work and yet Vince McMahon refuses to push this man. Even Paul Heyman has stated he is a fan of Cesaro. He has worked for the company for years and has never won the main titles, instead, he has been resigned to being Sami Zayn’s lackey and now with Zayn out of the picture, who knows what they are going to do with him. This man needs a push, and he needs it now.
Now I do have some additional honorable mentions for wasted potential. Others who did not make this list are Big E, Miz, Morrison, Apollo Crews, Liv Morgan, Shelton Benjamin and Lacey Evans. WWE has a lot of talent in their rosters, more than they have ever had, so this also means the potential storylines right now are endless. However they truly don’t seem to know how to use some of them, not all, but most.
