Now, no, it is not whatever just popped into your head.
Fantasy Island is a horror film, taking place on an island called...Fantasy Island, points for creativity there. But in all seriousness, this movie was surprisingly watchable.
The story goes as follows, a wealthy man, Mr Roarke(Michael Pena, Code Black), flies in a group of cliches, two douchebags(Ryan Hansen, Superhero Movie and Jimmy O. Yang, Life of The Party), a rather loose, bitchy younger woman with a tragic backstory(Lucy Hale, Pretty Little Liars), an honourable good looking man(Austin Stowell, Bridge of Spies) and a rich woman who has many regrets throughout her life(Maggie Q, Live Free or Die Hard), to an island where your deepest desires are given to you. However there is a rule, your fantasy must continue to its natural conclusion.
The location is beautiful. Looking like something out of the Caribbean with blue water, stunning beaches and surrounded by greenery.
The acting is alright, it can get a little stale in places. The true star of the movie is Michael Pane, who portrays an antagonist that you actually come to like. Cannot think of Ryan Hansen and Jimmy O.Yang, who are the worst things in this film, playing anything but douchebags, honestly find their characters rather annoying. The other actors are more there because they have to be, which is a major waste of Maggie Q's talent. In fact, if you are anything like me you will shout for the Island and Roarke to win.
The story is intriguing, a little odd. With a plot twist, that kind of feels like it is out of nowhere.
Overall the movie was not what I was expecting, switched on expecting a poorly made horror flick, that I would watch ten minutes and then fall asleep. However, it was an enjoyable waste of an hour and a half. Don't get me wrong though I will not be watching it again.
